Practicing discipline, humility, and respect since 1989
Origin
The Ingersoll Karate dojo opened in November 1989 when our Chief Instructor, Hanshi Isao Yabunka, moved to Ontario. The dojo is a not-for-profit organization where fundraising and sponsorship events are held throughout the year to continuously improve our facility, purchase and maintain equipment, provide jump start funding to students under 18, and provide our elite competitors with financial support.
Our programs run year long and focus on Goju Ryu Karate. Goju Ryu is one of the oldest martial arts traditions, characterized by efficient movements with close-range, infighting systems. Goju ryu combines the concepts of hard (go) and soft (ju): while the external, hard (go), principle relies on physical strength, the internal, soft style (ju), concentrates on circular movements and the development of chi (vital energy). This partnership gives Goju Ryu its beauty, disciplined movements, grace, and flowing forms.

What we do
Our programs run year-long, during which we offer each student three opportunities to participate in promotion tests. Although we welcome new members throughout the year, we encourage new members to take advantage of our free trial program before registering. As members of the Karate Ontario — the governing body for karate in Ontario— our students compete in sanctioned tournaments and can be considered for national team qualification.
We here at Ingersoll Karate believe in maintaining a family atmosphere where we can work to achieve and celebrate accomplishments together. We hold quarterly birthday and attendance parties to recognize our students, as well as an end of the year awards ceremony which showcases achievements at the dojo and competitive level. This is also when parents, volunteers, and sponsors are celebrated and thanked for their contributions.
Ingersoll Karate is perfect for fitness-focused birthday parties and summer day-camp, options you can explore under our “Services” tab.
